Chinese Academy of Science

The Chinese Academy of Science was established in November 1949. It is the highest academic institution in China's natural science, where its core focus in on consultation and comprehensive research and development for natural science and technology.

 

The Chinese Academy of Sciences proposed the concept of building a national innovation system and successively implemented the Knowledge Innovation Project, the "Innovation 2020", the "First Action" plan and the Comprehensive Deepening Reform Program, and proposed the "Enjoy the Era of the Knowledge Economy, Build a National Innovation System," and " "Innovation for Development, Science and Technology Lead the Future", "Innovation 2050: Science and Technology and China's Future", "Science and Technology Development Trends and Strategic Choice for 2020" and other strategic research reports.

 

According to the official website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in January 2016, the academy has a total of 12 campuses, more than 100 research institutes, 2 directly-affiliated universities (University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China), and 1 jointly built university with the people of Shanghai (Shanghai University of Science and Technology), more than 130 national-level key laboratories and engineering centers, and more than 210 field observation stations. The academy has also undertaken the construction and operation of more than 20 major national science and technology infrastructures, and has more than 68,000 formal employees. More than 52,000 postgraduates have completed a complete natural science subject system, and the overall level of physics, chemistry, materials science, mathematics, environment and ecology, and earth sciences has entered the world's advanced ranks.
