Xi'an Technological University
Xi'an Technological University is the only teaching and research university in the north western region of China that is unique in its characteristics as a military school. It is one of the seven undergraduate colleges directly under the Chinese ministry. During the "12th Five-Year Plan" period Xi'an Technological University was the high-important teaching and research university that was established in Shanxi Province, and it was jointly established by Shanxi Provincial Government and State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence China. It was also one of the Ministry of Education's "Excellent Engineer Education Training Program" pilot colleges, and was one of the students’ innovative training pilot schools Shanxi Province.
The university was founded in 1955 and formerly as Xi'an Second Industrial School. It has distinctive military characteristics and was part of the military supported project of 156 key projects of the national "1st Five-Year Plan". In 1960, the university was promoted to Xi'an Institute of Machinery. In 1965, it was promoted again to Xi'an Institute of Technology which became the only military engineering university in the northwest region of China. In 2006, it was renamed as Xi'an Technological University after the approval of China's Ministry of Education and the university has the right to confer doctoral degrees. In 2011, it was listed as a key high-level teaching and research university in Shanxi Province. In 2012, Shanxi Provincial Government and China North Industries Group Corporation jointly established Xi'an Technological University . In the same year, it was approved by the Shanxi Provincial Weaponry Scientific Research and Production Organisation's Confidential Qualifications Review and Accreditation Committee to become a national second-level confidentiality qualification unit, officially becoming a "combination of military and civilian services" National Defense Research Institute.
